Sex Therapy
Sex therapy is a specialized type of psychotherapy through which you can address concerns about sexual dysfunction, sexual feelings and intimacy.
It can be done either on individual or couple therapy. It is effective for any age, gender or sexual orientation. It is typically short term in duration (roughly 3-4 months) with a limited number of sessions. However, treatment plans depend on the concerns and goals being addressed.
Sex therapy can help you resolve various sexual issues, from concern about sexual functioning to difficulties in your sexual relationship. However, organic erectile dysfunction (the inability to obtain an erection firm enough for vaginal penetration or the inability to sustain the erection until completion of intercourse) is caused by physical problems and is not dealt within sex therapy. Sex therapy concerns only with psychogenic sexual dysfunctions which are caused by anxiety, guilt, depression or conflict around various sexual issues.
Areas of concern sex therapy deals with
1. Low sexual desire/arousal
2. Sexual orientation
3. Impulsive or compulsive sexual behaviours
4. Psychogenic erectile dysfunction
5. Premature ejaculation
6. Trouble reaching orgasm
7. Painful intercourse
If you find any of the above problems to be relevant for you it is a recommended that you can consult a sex therapist as early as possible.
