FAMILYTHERAPY
It is a type of psychotherapy that can help family members improve communication and resolve conflicts. If your family is going through a tough time- whether it’s due to stress, anger, or grief family therapy can make a difference.
Session are led by a specialist called a family therapist. She or he could be a psychologist, social worker or therapist who trained in family therapy.
It is often short term generally about 12 sessions. It may include all family members or just those able or willing to participate.
In family therapy session skills to deepen family connection and get through stressful times can be taught.
Some of the things that family therapists can help with are:
– Conflicts between family members
– Substance abuse or addiction
– A family member’s mental illness
– Children’s behaviour problems
– Infidelity
– Separation or divorce
Family therapy does not automatically solve family conflicts or make an unpleasant situation go away. But it can help you and your family members understand one another better, and provide skills to cope with challenging situations in a more effective way. It may also help the family achieve a sense of togetherness.
