What is Autism?
Autism is a pervasive developmental disorder where the child has deficit in social functioning, emotional reciprocity, behaviour functioning, speech development and cognitive functioning. Early identification of the features of autism can be done at the age of 8 months through minute observation. The child’s poor eye contact, lack of social smile, lack of understanding of non-verbal gesture are the first indication of child’s problem. If we find these indications in a child we have to consult Clinical Psychologist as soon as possible.
Symptoms:
– Poor eye to eye contact.
– Lack of response to his/her response.
– Poor social interaction.
– Speech regression.
– Echolalia.
– Make peculiar sound.
– Lack of attention.
– Restless.
– Stereotypical behavior.
Treatment:
There is no particular treatment like pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy which can cure Autism. Autism is not curable but manageable through continuous and rigorous training.
