– Anxiety is our body’s natural response to stress and it helps in our performance. It is a feeling of fear or apprehension about what’s to come, what is going to happen. The first day of office, going to job interviews, giving a public speech may cause most people to feel fearful and anxious

What is Anxiety Disorder?

If one’s feeling of anxiety are extreme and out of proportion to the actual impact of the event and it interferes with one’s daily activities for longer than six months, one might develop anxiety disorder.
There are different subcategories of anxiety disorders which include
✔ Panic Attacks
✔ Phobias
✔ Generalised Anxiety Disorder
✔ Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
✔ Post-Traumatic stress disorder and others.

Symptoms:
Common symptoms for all the subcategories include distress that is out of
proportion to the impact of the actual event, inability to set aside worry
and a constant restlessness. People with anxiety disorder may also experience
o Fear of death
o Hyper Vigilance
o Irritability
o Lack of Concentration
o Intrusive Thoughts
o Insomnia
o Palpitations
o Trembling
o Sweating and Nausea.
Treatment of Anxiety Disorder:
Treatment for anxiety disorders falls into two categories
i) Psychotherapy: A psychotherapist helps you to learn tools and strategies to cope with anxiety when it occurs. Psychotherapy works on cognition and behaviour which helps the clients to understand his or her belief system and behaviour to overcome from the disorder.
ii) Pharmacotherapy: It works to balance brain chemistry, prevent episodes of anxiety and ward off the most severe symptoms of the disorder.
